Segale said he filed not because he’s some political palooka looking for an election day beatdown but out of a genuine belief that government can make a difference. “Somebody’s got to believe,” he said. “Why bother is a good question. Maybe I’m crazy, but I think politics ought to be about more than money. I got into politics to change the way the game is played. I think maybe it’s not about yard signs or who spends the most money. “I think government should be about ideas and it should be accessible. I still believe in that.”

Segale said his belief in politics comes back to believing in himself and in voters to make the right decision. “People that run for public office are no better than the person who isn’t,” Segale said. “After a while you say, ‘why not me.’ It goes back to you or your neighbor being just as good.” And would his outlook be so cheery if voters hadn’t nodded his way Tuesday night? Would the name John Segale ever appear on another ballot box? On a Friday afternoon in July, well before Tuesday’s primary, Segale waits a moments and ponders the question.
“If I said I hadn’t thought about running for something else I’d be lying,” Segale said. “I don’t think it would be a stretch to think someday I’ll run again. “I’m interested in public service and always have been. That’s what drives me.”
Fellow Citizen,
Our community has great people and great potential. Like you, I have high expectations for our future. We need leadership with the high expectations of great, not just good. I am running for Mayor because I want to help our community realize our potential and have a great future through lower taxes, sustainable spending and innovation.
Unfortunately, our current city leadership is spending a great deal of money just settling for good.
In fact, they spent $85,000 to develop “Good Starts Here” as our community brand. In today’s competitive world, “Good Starts Here” is not good enough to protect our community or enhance our opportunities.
In this election, we need to end wasteful spending that shoots for good. We need to refocus and invest in a great future.
My 11-years of elected service at both the city and county level demonstrate the values of honesty, creativity and responsible spending I will return to our City Hall.
With your vote of support for Mayor on February 28, we can turn back the mediocrity of higher taxes, decaying infrastructure and a decreased quality of life and get on the road to the sustainable success that defines a great community.
Sincerely,
John P Segale
